In partnership with public safety, RapidSOS has created the world’s first emergency response data platform that securely links life-saving data from 450M+ connected devices directly to 911 and first responders in an emergency. Through the platform, we’re providing intelligent data that supports over 5,200 Emergency Communications Centers, protecting 95%+ of people in the US, across 150 million emergencies annually.

What this role is about:
At RapidSOS, we rely on insightful data to power our systems and solutions. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Director of Research to join our team who will help develop the long-term vision for the data science organization as a thought leader. You will have the opportunity to make an impact by supporting the development of the strategic research and product innovation that supports RapidSOS’s growth. You will work collaboratively with other data scientists, product managers, public safety team, and our engineering teams to build a platform that provides life-saving data to dispatchers, currently covering over 92% of the US population.

What you’ll do:

• Lead strategic research projects and data-driven decision making by partnering with key cross-functional teams and leadership

• Build proof of concepts and visualize data to be used in technical papers, documents, and blog posts

• Establish and refine research strategy; help develop the long-term vision of the data science organization

• Own the research process from ideation, creation, publication, dissemination, and evaluation

• Build relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders including universities, research organizations, public safety, etc. and actively participate in industry relevant events

• Provide thought leadership and proactively deliver information, insights, and products

What we’re looking for in our ideal candidate:

• 7+ years of relevant experience in research (in academia and industry settings)

• PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, Actuarial Sciences or similarly quantitative/technical field or equivalent experience

• Proactive strategic thinking, experience in writing technical papers, and ability to lead research initiatives

• Deep understanding of various research methodologies, large data sets, and a track record of translating insights into business impact

• Excellent communication skills and ability to deliver data driven insights to various stakeholders and audiences

• Proficiency in Python, SQL

• Hands-on experience with traditional data warehouse technologies and BI or visualization tools; familiarity with BigQuery and AWS is preferred

• Master level of machine learning techniques, algorithms and data visualization
